Guidelines to Safety in PE

23rd January 2020

Dear Parents & Carers,
The Guidelines to Safety in PE have recently been reviewed and our Trust has adopted the guidelines from Essex.

In accordance with these recommendations, all jewellery now needs to be removed for PE, including earrings. Taping for any reason is not allowed under the Essex County Council Health & Safety Policy. If children can remove their earrings, they will be permitted to do so before a PE lesson. However, if they cannot take their earrings out, children will have to sit out of PE. Staff are not allowed to remove pupils earrings.

With this in mind, if you intend to have your child’s ears pierced we recommend that you do so at the start of the summer break, allowing time for them to heal and for the earrings to be safely removed.

Long hair is required to be tied back during PE lessons. Please ensure your child has a hair tie in their PE bag.

These guidelines will be adhered to from Monday 3rd February.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries regarding this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Hurwood
