End of day Home Collection

28th January 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

End of Day Home Collection

For Safeguarding reasons, please could we respectfully request that if anybody other than your normal person to collect is going to be taking your child home from school that you notify the school office or your child’s class teacher.

Additionally, I know that in the playground at the end of the day, parents are often spontaneously trying to be kind by taking other children to help out a parent. In this instance, it is absolutely imperative that you notify a member of staff before doing this so that the school knows who has taken responsibility for that child.

Where the school has any element of doubt about who is collecting or who should be collecting a child, we will not release them until we have checked this out for ourselves – and I make no apology for this, even if it causes inconvenience.

After-School Club
As you will know, from time to time we put out a consultation with parents to look at the viability of running an After-School Club in the style of our Breakfast Club – and on each occasion, the returns indicate that it is something that is not viable because of lack of interest, consistency of uptake and the limited amount that parents/carers indicate they would be happy to pay. The physical logistics for the school are complex too because the school hall is used most nights by other clubs – and teachers, understandably, do not want a club running out of their classroom every night. It is, however, something that I recognise as an issue for some of our parents.

Following a conversation with one parent who suggested that even just one hour after school would be helpful, we propose to trial the following after half term, for half a term:
• We will run a Homework/Quiet type After-School Club until 4:30 pm. Pupils will be able to spend time doing any homework activities they might have, for example, reading, spellings, tables. There will be table-top games and activities also to occupy them. They will be provided with a simple snack such as a piece of fruit, biscuit, a packet of crisps and a drink.
• Two Teaching Assistants will supervise the club.
• Each session will cost £5, so if your child attends on two days it will be £10 for the week. If your child attends for five days, it will be £25 for the week.
• As with Breakfast Club, prior notice of attendance is preferable, but ‘drop-ins’ will be allowed.
• Children will go down to the IT Suite at the end of the day and then will be escorted by the adults in charge, to the ‘space’ that After-School Club will be operating out of on that day.
• LATE collection will incur a financial penalty.

A separate letter will be sent out shortly so that interested parents/carers can request places.
This trial will run from Monday 24th February until Friday 3rd April. If the trial is successful, we will then consider rolling it out more permanently.

Should you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
